Social Responsibilities

‘KBK Engineers’ is a BBBEE level 3 contributor and is committed to the empowerment of previously disadvantaged individuals.  ‘KBK Engineers’ is also committed to the development of all company’s employees including personnel encountered in external relationships.  The empowerment objective is addressed in a number of ways as follows:

 Staff Development

‘KBK Engineers’ pursues a policy of continuous in-service training, particularly at Engineer and Technician level, which includes leadership training, computer literacy, management and writing skills.  All members of ‘KBK Engineers’ are encouraged to further their formal education.

Employment Equity

‘KBK Engineers’ is rated at 46.7% when it comes to employment equity in the BEE score card thanks to a substantial number of females and previously-disadvantaged individuals employed by the firm.  ‘KBK Engineers’ remains committed to the attainment of higher level of employment equity.

 Bursary Scheme

KBK believes that the long-term solution to employment equity in South Africa is the provision of quality education to all people.  The company has and still awards bursaries to various students to study and/ or further their studies, on full time or part time basis, in various institutions around South Africa.

Establishment of black owned companies

 In 1998 ‘KBK Engineers’ established the company Geomaton (Pty) Ltd, a ‘materials testing’ laboratory employing eight previously disadvantaged individuals. During the 2001 financial year Geomaton’s turnover was approximately R1 million.  ‘KBK Engineers’ has since transferred 100% ownership of Geomaton to previously disadvantaged individuals at no cost to them.

In 2001 ‘KBK Engineers’ initiated the formation of a company, Mahlasedi Engineers (Pty) Ltd, a new company providing previously-disadvantaged people with the opportunity of participating meaningfully in the ownership and management of a consulting engineering practice.  Mahlasedi Engineers (Pty) Ltd is a young organisation of which 49% is owned by ‘KBK Engineers’, and 51% by Afrishare Investment Projects which is an independent wholly black-owned company.  Mahlasedi Engineers (Pty) Ltd offers clients civil and structural engineering service.
